"When someone goes to a car show these days you’ll see some great old cars being shown by some great old guys."
-PETER BORNE

But two things come to mind... "What is the next generation building?" and "How can we afford to be involved?"

Answer: Build a Kit!

We’re hoping to inspire people to get back to the garage. Educate anyone with a desire to own something unique and custom! The Kit Kulture is growing rapidly to fill the need for fun cars, built by hand and built to last! Kits are no longer floppy fiberglass bodies bolted to a VW chassis, but cars produced by an industry constantly improving to meet the demands of car builders/owners today. Our wish for this show is to turn the spotlight on these builders/suppliers of dreams!

LATEST UPDATE:

WEEK 6     4/4/09

We're half way through our build season, and this week our production company met with SPEED network execs to discuss a second season. They were pleased with the show in many ways but wanted to encourage us, to encourage you to tune in! Tell your friends, to tell there friends. As a Kit Kulture were a mighty force that should have a voice in the Automotive community. We thank you and wish for your continued support. As to the build, we really enjoyed going to Granby Missouri, and working with the team there. Everyone was so cool. Thanks Carol for the Club sandwiches, they were awesome! As to the future builds, we want to hear from you, the viewer. Give us your ideas, also send in pics if you have built or are building a kit car. We'll be adding a page on our site that you can show off your project! Also, if you are looking to build a kit, we highly recommend supporting our builders. They represent, honest, fair and what's good in the Kit car biz.

Tune in! Talk next week.

WEEK 1    2/21/09

Thanks for taking time to watch the show and come to the site.

I thought I’d walk you through a condensed version of how this show came to be.

My Dream was to own a Batmobile from the TV series.    After a bunch of research, and a supportive spouse,  I did just that in 1989.     It was an eye opening experience to say the least.   Fiberglass and all it’s applications was really cool to learn about.     When people found out what I did and how I did it,  they asked if I could build other TV/Movie cars for them.   Of course I said yes and then figured out how to make it happen.     You can see 3 of my cars in person at the Volo Auto Museum in Volo Ill.     Great people there,  worth the trip!

Fast forward to around 2006.  A friend of mine, “T-Bone,” showed me a Porsche GT kit that was being offered for sale on line.    I thought it was cool and thought together we should make one and turn around and sell it.   He wasn’t able to do it at the time so things cooled down.   Spring of 2007, another friend of mine asked me to find a reputable kit car maker,  and when I was looking online,  I ran across the Porsche GT kit again, so  I called Mike Vetter.    We talked and I thought I’d pay him a visit.     He impressed me as a good guy first,  then a good teacher of the process of kit building.    I asked him if I could bring down a video team and caputure a build of his kit.     He agreed and in the Fall of 2007 we shot the complete build in 21 days!    The car looked great so we took it to some TV related trade shows and met the decision makers at SPEED.    They looked at our footage and agreed to a season of TV or 13 episodes.

We contacted Jim Youngs at Kit Car Builder to ask for his help with finding other builders interested in our show and before we knew it, we were off to the races!

WEEK 2    2/28/09

Friends-

We’re two weeks into our series and Im glad you’re here!

I’ve been checking in with blogs, as well as our own view emails and I must say I appreciate comments from all sides of the table.

It’s pretty obvious that our first build is perhaps a bit more advanced that the beginner can tackle,  however not if you ask Mike Vetter, at The car factory.    He’s more than willing to assist anyone in building one of his kits.      Check our our link to his site on and drop him a line.   It’s one cool car and worth the effort.

Our next 3 cars builds we sourced with the assistance of Kit Car Builder.     They are more typical of what the Kit industry is offering yet no less exciting!

Keeping in mind that our show is limited to how much of the build can be shown per episode,  we’ve done our best to tell the story with the key points illustrated.    We hope that it will wet your whistle enough to contact the builder to find our more.    In the future we may make available expanded footage on each build.    We’ve shot over 50 hours on the GT,   30 hours on the 60’s Roadster,   30 hours on the 34 Hi-boy and 35 hours on the Super Stepside!

In the meantime,  keep watching,  tell us what you liked about the show and constructive criticism is also welcome.   Check back often as I’ll be updating this page weekly.

WEEK 3     3/7/09

This week,  we wrapped up the GT Build,  again thanks to Mike Vetter and his team!   Great Job.     Next week, we’re show casing the 60’s Roadster build.    Most people will recognize it’s lines as a Cobra.    Similar maybe, but completely original,  a distinction must be made as to avoid misrepresentation in the eyes of the legal beagles.

Once again, we hope to make this show, your show.   Tell us what you want to see,   Send us your Kit car pics,  give us an earful,  we can take it.    Just know that we want to make it the best it can be for the dreamers, builders and drivers in the Kit Kulture.

Also make sure to check back often to the website for new stuff!   We’re still working out some kinks, but are getting a handle on it now,   In the past 10 days we’ve had over 1000 visitors!

Thanks and tell your friends!

WEEK 4     3/14/09

Our team traveled to Salem Oregon, for the 60’s roadster shoot, from our base in Minneapolis, MN.     Yep,  we’re sure passionate about our driving season since it’s so dang short.      Anyway,  we pull a 24 foot car hauler behind a 2000 Excursion (“Limited” version mind you).     We booked through North Dakota alright, but on a Sunday evening at around 9:30pm (dusk)   we heard a thump then a clunk, that know-one wants to hear, from a vehicle.    We had to pull over on the road side as cars whizzed by.   Most of us knows what this is like at one time or another.    My buddy John looked underneath and saw a chain dangling.     The transfer case shattered?!  Just blew apart!      We were in a remote area so none of our AT&T phones were working,  but somehow John had 1/2 bar on his Verizon phone.   It was just enough to get a call out to my wife who contacted AAA and got a tow company to get us and both the truck and trailer to the nearest town of Mile City Montana.      Next morning we had a dilemma.     The Ford dealership in town said it’d be a week to fix.  And all they had to rent was a Tempo.  Hmm.     As it turned out the tow company that got us off the road,  “Frank’s Towing,”   had some government trucks that they’d fixed and were selling.   Now if you work for the government, then you know what I’m talking about.   These trucks were no frills, no chome, no bull work trucks.    OK,  so there was no cushy leather seats,  no cup holders,  and no trip computer, but what it had did the job... plus.    It was a Dodge 3/4 ton crew cab with a 5 speed stick on the floor.   Man, could that pull a trailer through the mountains!      We had to buy the truck for 13k with a promise from Franks that we could re-sell it back as long as we didn’t abuse it!     I’ve never babied a truck so much in my life,  but in the end all worked out.  We made it out to Salem Oregon in time for the shoot,  built the 60’s Roadster,  loaded it up in the trailer and came back through the mountains to end up back in Mile City Montana were I re-sold the truck back to Franks for $1500 less,  (thanks guys, you saved our shoot)  picked up the Ford, (which after a few other repair finds, rang up a 6k repair bill!  Ouch!) and headed home.     But hey...were making TV!

See if you can spot the Red Dodge crew cab during the episodes!      That was one great truck!

WEEK 5     3/28/09

Hello again, To all of you who have taken the time to look around our site. Thank you, Thank you!

We know it's not perfect yet, but we're working out the bugs! Our goal is to add some really fun stuff in the next few weeks so you can be more a part of the Kit Kommunity!

Things to look for in the near future is a viewer forum, Viewer Cars, and opportunities to submit and vote for favorite pics plus some prize giveaways! In the meantime, we are looking forward to our next build for the Hod Rodders. It's a 34 Hi-boy build from the crew at B and B Manufacturing.

As the viewer feedback has increased, I've tried to keep up and personally respond to each one. Alas, it's not as easy to get to everyone now. So I'd remind everyone to check here for answers to commonly asked questions like the following:

Q: Are you coming out with DVD's of the builds or Where can I see the show online?

A: We are working out the details with legal to provide DVD's of the builds. We'll know more in a few weeks or so. My question to you all is if they were available how many would be up to buy it! We'll even throw in some extra footage that we couldn't include due to TV time restraints!

We may also offer a online option through I-Tunes. Until then, check back for updates!
